Richard Pontvert (France) Galibier "Vercors" mountain climbing boots. These are the Holy Grail of traditional leather mountain boots. Thick one piece reverse leather uppers - they can take intense scuffing without losing waterproof integrity. Rock solid support while generously padded at the ankle. Sewn vibram type soles - they can be resoled. They feature a two thirds rigid sole stiffener - the soles flex at the instep for comfortable walking. With proper care the leather uppers will last your life time and beyond. Richard Pontvert was absorbed by French company Paraboot. At the time these boots were made they were around $500-$600 depending on the exchange rate between the U.S. dollar and Euro currency.
I had a similar pair of Galibier boots that I used extensively on winter climbs during the 1970s and 1980s. They were sadly lost after a move back to the U.S. from Europe. I bought these boots for sale here several years ago, but realised because of health issues my winter mountain climbing days are over. If they don't sell, I will just keep them and use them for cold winter walks and hikes. They are unused "as new" - see photos. Size U.S. 9 1/2. Similar Richard Pontvert Galibier boots are selling for similar or much higher prices on eBay in well worn used condition. Get these "as new" while you can at a steal price, and hit the mountains wearing them way up North for the last of this winter season - or start the next season wearing them later this year!
