**CORRECTED AGAIN** 1952 Smith & Wesson pre-Model 14 K frame chambered in .38 S&W Special CTG with 6" barrel. All matching serial & assembly numbers, appropriate trigger end tang, trigger and hammer finish in excellent condition with some minor holster wear. 95% in bluing condition.
From the S&W Historical Foundation:
"The K serial number prefix was used on postwar K frame revolvers that had adjustable sights (the C prefix was used for K frame guns with fixed sights). With that and the factory invoice in hand, I can tell you that this Smith & Wesson K-38 Masterpiece that was fitted with a heavy barrel. Yours shipped in September 1952 to a dealer in El Paso, Texas
The K-38 Masterpiece was renamed the Model 14 in the late 1950s. Since this gun is a postwar example that predates that nomenclature change, collectors would refer to this gun as a pre-Model 14. That wasn’t official Smith & Wesson terminology, but those of us “in the know” know exactly what a pre-Model 14 is.
I suspect that your gun has a Patridge front sight, which is rectangular in shape. The “Combat Masterpiece” variation had a ramped front sight. As I mentioned before, the K prefix means that it has an adjustable rear sight. It should also have walnut target stocks fitted to it. That’s a really lovely example and it looks to be perfectly preserved in its original factory configuration."
